2010 PAGS Challenge Description and Rules

Description
The 2010 PAGS Gourd Fest Committee wants to increase the excitement for everyone who attends the Fest. We believe that involving the public in the Challenge Activities will help promote their interest in gourds. So, what we have designed are two challenges (a different one for each day) whereby all Fest attendees each day will receive a ballot and they will be able to cast their vote for the submission that most appeals to them. At the end of each day, one winner will be determined by popular vote, and a small prize and a Blue Ribbon will be awarded.

Submission
• Only one entry per person, per day
• All work must be done by the artist entering the work

Judging
• The judges will be everyone who attends the Fest…your peers and the public
• Each Fest attendee will be offered one ballot per day
• They will vote for their favorite submission ─ one that they feel best represents the theme

Awards
• Votes will be counted at the end of each day ~ 3:30 (Friday and Saturday)
• In the case of a tie, there will be a random drawing of names between the artists who received the tie votes
• Friday’s winner will be announced at the PAGS Dinner; Saturday’s winner will be announced at 4 PM
• Winners will receive a Blue Ribbon and a small prize

PAGS Three-of-a-Kind Challenge

PAGS Three-of-a-Kind---Friday June 18th
The theme for the first challenge is--Three of a Kind. Perhaps you’ve seen this kind of judging at your local community fair. There are three veggies or piece of fruit on a plate and the judges decide what they like best about them. Maybe all three are the same size and color, or they are the biggest or best looking.

4 Mystery Objects Challenge

Four Mystery Objects—Saturday June 19th
Some craft clubs pose mystery object challenges to spur the imagination of the crafters to incorporate found objects into their art. The Fest committee has 20 mystery kits, each with the same four mystery items.

• The first 20 members who sign-up for this challenge will receive their kit and submission form. Sign up now – kits will be available at the March and April Meetings—or can be mailed to you.
• Bring your submission to the Fest for judging…again by your peers and the public…again with no “rules” for what they base their vote on.
